MELAKA RIVER REHABILITATION AND BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT PHASE 3

DESCRIPTION

A tidal barrage was proposed by the Design and Build Contractor to control the water level in Sg. Melaka for river cruise activity as a new tourist attraction in the Visit Malaysia 2007 program and accepted by the Government for implementation. SMHB was engaged to carry out hydraulics and environmental studies for the tidal barrage.

The services provided by SMHB include sediment and water quality modelling, advice on the operation of the barrage system, advice on tidal lagoon sedimentation and analysis to confirm size of scour protection works downstream and upstream of the barrage.

An EIA study comprising assessment of water quality, wastewater characteristics, river ecology, terrestrial flora and fauna was carried out for the section along Sg. Melaka from Hang Jebat bridge to the river mouth.
