KOTA SETAR REGIONAL SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT AND SEWER PIPELINE

DESCRIPTION

The Project is implemented by the Government of Malaysia, through Jabatan Perkhidmatan Pembetungan, to improve sewerage services in Bandaraya Alor Setar and its vicinity. It involves rationalisation of multi-point sewage treatment plants and sewering premises currently served by individual on-site system by diverting flows into a new regional STP that eventually lead to an existing CSTP located at Tanjung Bendahara (built under JBIC Project in 2008).

The sewerage sub-catchments to be served by the new Kota Setar STP are Derga, Kota Setar, Alor Malai, Hutan Kampong, Simpang Kuala, Pengkalan Kundur and Tandop, covering about 60 km2, predominantly urban and semi-urban areas.

The proposed sewerage network will only cover the sub-catchment areas of Derga, Kota Setar and Alor Malai with the estimated total length of pipe are 22.90km. No physical works will be carried out for the rest of the sub-catchments. The sewer conveyance system will cater for sewage flows up to year 2045.

The new Kota Setar STP is located on 3 hectares land in Tanjung Bendahara and will serve about 300,000 PE.
