UPGRADING OF SG. SELANGOR SCHEME PHASE I (SSP I)

The Sg Selangor Phase 1 (SSPl) WTP and associated works were constructed in stages; Stage 1 was completed in 1993 and Stage 2 in 1995. Each stage has design treated water output capacity of 4 7 5 Mld, which is a total of 950 Mld for both stages.

The concession for operation of SSPl was awarded to Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor (SPLASH) in 2000 and a due diligence exercise was carried out that revealed a shortfall of 185 Mld.

In 2011, UPEN Selangor has engaged SMHB to provide engineering services to restore SSPl to its original capacity of 950 Mld.

The restoration works include the following:

  1. a) M&E upgrading works of raw water and treated water pumps
  2. b) Additional raw water pipeline from intake to WTP
  3. c) Upgrading of clarifier system
  4. d) Increasing chemical dosing capacity
  5. e) Interconnection pipeworks at Matang Pagar reservoir
  6. f) Associated M&E, control instrumentation and C&S works.

Upon completion of the rehabilitation works at SSPl, an additional output capacity of 190 Mld is available and UPEN Selangor recognised the need to implement changes in the SSPl distribution in view of recent changes in water demand centres, in particular to augment supplies to the Bukit Matang reservoirs and provide relief to Kota Damansara and Wangsa Maju areas.

In 2012, SMHB was appointed by UPEN Selangor to carry out design and construction supervision for the distribution works for SSP1.
