COMMON UTILITY TUNNEL FOR PUTRAJAYA DEVELOPMENT

In line with the “No Dig” policy for Putrajaya, SMHB was commissioned to develop and carry out detailed engineering design of a Common Utility Tunnel (CUT) for the Putrajaya Core Island. The tunnel will house:

  • power and telecommunication cables
  • potable water supply pipes
  • gas pipes
  • telemetry cables

The CUT provides a protected environment for the utilities against future damage by construction equipment and other loadings and also safe access for future utility laying and for maintenance and inspection personnel. Access for maintenance and inspection is provided at intervals together with emergency exits. The CUT is linked to the CUT Local Control Centre and subsequently to the Perbadanan Putrajaya City Control Centre by telemetry system. A tunnel Management System controls the safety and security aspects of the CUT.
