DESCRIPTION
PBAPP operates the Teluk Bahang and Ayer Itam dams to regulate supplies on Penang Island. SMHB was engaged to carry out dam safety inspection for both dams including assessment of slope failures at the Guillemard Water Treatment Plant and submit report three months after commencement of the consultancy service.
The dam safety inspection involves:
- Review of dam instrumentation data, past reports and performance via discussions with the operators
- Inspection of dam embankment and associated structures in accordance with guidelines by the Malaysian National Committee on Large Dams
- Stability Analysis
- Review and evaluation of existing dam surveillance and monitoring programme
- Statement on Dam Safety
- Recommendation on remedial measures
